Microsoft Disconnects Modded Xbox Users

S-4'N3 writes "The BBC reports that Microsoft has disconnected approximately 600,000 Xbox users from Xbox Live because the devices they are using have been modified, either with software or with new chips, to play pirated games. 'Microsoft confirmed that it had banned a "small percentage" of the 20 million Xbox Live users worldwide. Microsoft said that modifying an Xbox 360 console 'violates' the service's 'terms of use' and would result in a player being disconnected.'"

Why? The modders are just being banned from using the Live service, they still can play games offline, pirated or not. And this would also mean less cheaters, so a lot of genuine gamers will be happy.

I can only see this as a good thing as well. It will make it better for genuine users.

Well good on Microsoft I say.
Get rid of those people who don't deserve the 'skill' ranking they're given.

Now I can play and people will know I actually am bad online.

Well I don't think there's a good or bad side in this situation. Yes, most of the cheaters online are using pirate games but in a way that's Microsoft's fault.
Charging $50 or more dollars for online gaming is outrageous and I believe it's also considered a sin in some religions

IT has better online than PS3, it's actually pretty cheap for 12months. Modders can have their XBox's locked and IP Banned for all I care.

The proper response to this is to call a congressman, not steal the game because it's too expensive. Stealing is a sin in my religion.
