Info: Ski Challenge (free online ski racing)

Ski Challenge is one of the most addictive games i ever met..
it's a alpine downhill-racing game with an online-world-cup and an online world-championship.
the online races are during the winter, on the same weekends as the real races take place. after the race is done, the track for the next race is downloadable.
it's really addictive and feels very real.. you start to hunt down 1/100 secs by trying new lines and fine-tunig your ski.
you can enable ghosts to compete with - either your own best, or your friend's, or the top-drivers, or the one right before you in ranking..

it's all FREE, and you can win prizes like RL-cars, holidays, etc..

ofc, season 09 is over, and there are no prizes left.. but you can exercise for the coming SC:10 (SC is being run since some years now with new versions every year, it's a huge success in the german-language countries)

I was a bit screwed at end of last season through I missed the prizepool of the season just very few points in the end. Maybe next year i'll get it ^^

There is an arcade game like this. It's a ball to play. I have a few questions, though.

Is there an English version of the site?

How do you control the game?

And, forgive the paranoia, but where does the prize money come from?

i'm afraid there is no english version. i think there are english-language SC-forums and comunities on the web. the game itself is simple enough, and almost self-explaning..

gamecontrol is simple: arrowkeys control turning and leaning forward (to gain speed) and upright position (steeper turns).
spacebar while jumping keeps airtime shorter.

you can tune your ski alot with 3 parameters.

the prizemoney comes from the austrian national public service ORF and other sponsors of the game. alpine skiing is very popular here, there is big money in sponsoring and advertising.. the racetracks ingame are plastered with ads like in real.. i think many of the ingame-sponsors are also main-sponsors of the RL-races.

the game is published by the ORF and is very popular in the german-language countries..

if you are in for the prizemoney, and you come from a country where the game is not officially published, please check back if you are allowed to win at all..

anyway, the game is really cool and highly addictive, especially when you compete with your friends in online-mode.. ^^

i found an english web-site about SC, and the game seems to come in different language-versions ^^ some download-servers are off (the world-cup season is only in winter), but i think the download from ORF works during sommer.

I have no expectations of winning money. But whenever someone on the web offers free stuff, you really need to think about what their incentive is. Advertising supported sites are fine. It's the sites with no obvious means of support that you need to worry about.
