XP vs. Vista for Gaming

I never switched to Vista because it sucked so much for so long, so I stayed with XP. I am curious about how Vista runs now, and whether I should make the switch or not. Maybe I'll just hang on to XP and wait for the next Windows version to come out.

What do you all think about Vista's current graphics, stability, compatibility, etc. with games?

I'm going to stay with XP until I am dragged kicking and screaming to Vista.

In all likelihood, I'll be giving Vista a miss as I believe Microsoft will be pushing Windows 7 in the near future.

I think you are mislead by the masses. I see so many people rip on vista and I dont get why. I assume its because they got crap rigs to utilize it on. Vista 64bit for me enhanced my gameplay and it doesnt hurt having lots of GB of ram either*

*XP only supports 3,2GB of ram unless you run 64bit which most people dont. 3,2gb is pretty low

I had to switch to vista when my older xp pc exploded (I hate thunderstorms, lol) and my new vista pc drivers didn't support xp anymore. Most of my stuff from headsets to some games I can't play/use anymore, but at least vista gave me that xp sp2 compatibility option I also use for playing eu.

I hope 7 will be nice soon enough to switch over to that!

You can play pretty much any gold game in Vista. I have alot of old ones and have yet to experience a issue in Vista 64bit. Alot of the issues with old games can be avoided by running them in compatability mode or just simply updating sound and video drivers. When I say pretty much btw is because I cant guarantee 100% of games ever made for PC will work, just that mine has worked 100%

Regarding hardware, as far as I understood it there are support drivers put out by every manufacturer unless they gone out of business.

I found some old pc games, like Jowoods "Die Völker" (no clue what that might be in English, something along the lines of "The people") and that simply doesn't work well on vista anymore... graphics suck, it's laggy, etc.

My gameplay since switching to vista has enhanced too, it's just getting used to it and it's flaws.

I ran a copy of windows 7 for awhile and it blows vista out of the water.. worth waiting for windows 7 imho.

My no.1 advice for that game would be to try and search for a patch for it. Secondly it would be to try and run it in various compatability modes.

To run a compatability mode you right click the exe (or shortcut) and pick run as "XP" or "Win 98" etc and hope it will boot

I use Vista and have absolutely no problems with it at all. I was worried with all the bad hype about it but it's fine for me

My old games I have the same problems running on XP or Vista but have found workarounds using Win2k compatibility on both operating systems and now they all work perfectly well

Didn't work in compatibilty mode any better, somehow felt like trying to put an old, shaking granny into a lamborghini I gave the game to friends who enjoy it now, I am too busy for it now anway
