Hey guys and girls I thought I would give you a little review of an
FPS which for the past few months has been in open Beta. For those of you that love a
FPS shooter this is pretty good fun!
Crossfire is a small
FPS based MMO shooter in 3D which offers 4 gaming modes (Elimination, Search & Destroy, Team Death Match & Ghost Mode) it covers 9 player maps in different environments, these vary your game play from being hardcore up close and personal to sniper range with a little more tactics.
Admittedly the graphics can look a bit dated but the system is small and easily playable and very fast paced in the right teams. You start off with your basic guns and equipment (there are still no armours at this time) but as you progress and skill on exp from a trainee/rookie up into the ranks you may purchase with your GP awards better weapons and throwing weapons such as smoke grenades and flash bombs.
It’s a fast download but still has a few bugs in open Beta and is still being patched and developed by Subagames, its isn’t in the same league as Counterstrike or COD4 but it’s a great introduction for a player who has just started or who is interested in trying out
PVP team shooters. This game is best played with headphones as you can hear your enemies creeping around you!
The synopsis of the game is that a number of soldiers who once belonged to the world-leading Special Forces joined 'Global Risk', the international mercenary forces corporation.
The mercenaries carried out difficult missions for the organization, but they have distinctive differences from 'Black List' who commit terror only for profit. Despite an appreciable sum of money, the mercenaries have never participated in any battle without justifiable reasons and they live up to their conviction to fight against terrorists. Based on their practical battle experiences and skills, Global Risk seeks to expand its power. Main clients of Global Risk are third world countries without their own national militaries, countries on the black list of terrorists, and the UN X-File Bureau implementing secret missions.
When you enter the system you can choose the appropriate server for your level Alpha to Delta with two rookie servers when you first start. Within those are a choice of 10 channels and within those channels are a host of rooms which list who is the host and what type of gaming mode and map that host is playing and the amount of players. You can choose depending on team size if you wish to play the military ‘Global Risk’ or the mercenary ‘Black List’. Then just get in the room and shoot!
With regards to the ranking system you start at trainee and gain exp in your team roles. Once you are promoted to Corporal then you are able to join a clan and unlock the use of flash bang grenades and you can begin to purchase further weapons, better weapons become available to you are you get promoted throughout the game. Like many of these MMO’s you can ‘pay’ via PayPal etc to purchase further GP points to gain additional exp and ‘deposit’ to buy a better weapon that you are able to use but don’t quite have enough in game cash for.
There is a friends list and clan list system that does enable you to chat privately to ppl in game.
The Crossfire official forum, clan lists and Mall are all contained within the introduction page prior to ‘Start Game’ so there is no need to have additional links or favourites you have to swap around with.
It’s simple and its fun, if I had to rate it over all I would probably give it 7.5/10. It’s still early days for it but see the link below if you fancy a dabble!
Crossfire even has its own GamersHQ clan!
