Why Sega should release a new console

I was browsing and came over an interesting article on why Sega should release a new console.

IMO there is still a chance for a fourth player unless Apple wants to enter too.

This would be cool. I doubt I'm up for buying a new multi hundred dollar console though at the moment.

You are probably right, Apple did the wrong thing by releasing iPhone when they already had the Motorolas and the Nokias.

The iPhone catered for a niche and was made successful at launch due to the popularity of the iPod and other famous Apple brands. Sega doesn't have anything like that, there are already three next gen consoles and I can't see the appeal of a fourth.

Sega could make a comeback, but first they should concentrate on their games. Build up old franchises back to respectability, create some new franchises pertaining to various genres and establish them, then I think they can think of a new console, or at least a handheld.

Releasing a new console is incredibly risky. The investment required, huge. If it was to fail, Sega would be pretty much fucked.

Yeah, true; I heard that Sony lost money on each PS3 sold, and hoped to regain the profit from the games.

With the price of them? I doubt it, but still seems a little bit possible though.
