Bad isp's

A thread about which isp's are bad would be good i think

So i'll start with one from the us, even though i dont live in the us ;P

comcast in the us is not a good isp, due to the fact that they throttle your connection. Do a google search on them.

I think you do have to make some decisions though, like what is a bad isp?

Bad in the way they offer bad quality of service for gaming?
Bad in the way how they handle copyright questions, p2p traffic?
Bad in the way they effect freedom of speech?

You can have a really fast and stable connection perfect for gaming, but who will disconnect you when you upload / download content via p2p to make an extreme example. It depends a lot of what you expect from an ISP.

true that, but myself i demand a perfect isp.

ie great for gaming, should not limit my use of it and disconnect p2p traffic and should not interfer with my freedom of speach.

I'll try and be positive and say I love my ISP (Virgin Media formerly Telewest) as a cable tv provider the LLU service seems so much better than a lot of the British Telecom derived services in the UK.

Also the e-mail I got on Thursday telling me about the upcoming free upgrade from 2Mb to 10 Mb cheered me up no end

COMCAST IS JUST BLOODY EVIL.

250Gb /Month Cap -- If you go over that, twice they terminate your service, and ban you for 6 months.

Time Warner Cable is now capped and metered, so you get less for more.

These companies are just greedy as hell. Speak with your dollars.

I HAVE to go with BT here where I live, as they are currently the ONLY ones that will give me a BB connection.

So, for me they are the best, and worst, and all of the middle as far as connections go

I just plug directly into the internet so I dont have that problem at all.

Joke aside, the best ISP I've had was BredBandsBolaget in Sweden. I was also happy with ComHem in the same country.

In Ireland I used U.TV and NTL/UPC (cable). Overall I liked the cable best as U.TV messed up my ADSL for months and it was impossible to get help and hard to get out.

In Northern Irelan I used Pipex as it was the only ISP I found with no caps at the time. They were cheap but they throttled P2P traffic. The connection was also abit unstable.

In Norway I use Eidsiva Bredband. Cheap, stable and no cap or throttling.

I really miss BBB

The ones I would stay away from, due to personal experience, are U.TV (UK/Ireland) and Telenor (Norway).

I live in the UK and have BT as my service provider. Can't really say much good for them except the times between 1am - 4pm the service is ok.

Between 4pm-1am its terrible. Dropped connections, slow speed, terrible ping and suspect traffic shaping mixed in there too. If you call customer services they blame your computer... even though if I take it to somebody elses house and use thier connection it works fine.

Problem is my exchange is not yet "unbundled" so im stuck with BT atm
