Its a sound base to start off from but do they do it like MindArk does as in limit bp drops on really good stuff to help maintain a monopoly? Some examples like Dante amps amps and master coat BP's comes into mind since chances of looting those bp's are almost impossible

No, the government issues you a new CD (two CD types - different from blueprints) when you successfully craft certain things. You can also get CD's from completing quest stages in the starting area. I believe the level of difficulty of crafting determines the level of the CD's that drop. You can only purchase CD's from other players, and not from technicians, so you will have to trade or buy on market to complete your library for complex items that require multiple CD's for components. Or else you can buy the components on auction or from other players. Check out the Afterwiki for a good crafting guide.

its a bit unfair comparing aw and eu, its a bit like comparing ur buddys newest java app with windows. its apples and oranges. so its a unfair comparison

personaly i prefer aw to eu. sure the green box is a bit annoying but this is a alpha, and its less annoying than the rubberbanding eu had after it went gold. also bear in mind that the starting zone is busier than other zones, so u are more likely to have lag/sync problems there

ofc everyone likes different things in games, the things that attract a new player can often be the same things that put off the older player, but imo aw has struck a nice balance, there are mobs for all levels of player, there are nice lootables that you dont need to be a uber to get, and the crafting system is very nice and makes a lot more sense to me than the fruitmachines that some other games have.

so i'd recommend anyone to give it a go, maybe it wont turn out to be your cup of tea, and maybe you'll love it as much as i do. But without trying you'll never know.

I think I have my settings adjusted enough that I am not getting the GBOD like I was. I am able to stay on for a bit, it is a bit boring and based upon what I accomplished by first several hours I expect it will take me at least 2 months to earn enough to earn citizenship. That is if I play it every day instead of EU, and that isn't going to happen, I will likely play it a few times a week for a little while.

I do like the AC feature and may do that to do my rock picking with the iron axe while I am watching tv. It seems to take about 5 minutes to do a rock so find the rock, turn on ac to pick, watch tv and when I notice the rock dissapear move on to the next one. Not the most exciting thing to do, but does not require as much attention to what is going on as clicking filters while watching tv. My finger does not get as tired.

a couple of my EU soc mates were tryin the game out, so we did some cross game trading for steel picks and sweat, made a bigger difference than using the iron picks from the trash can. still not gonna be done in a few days but should take less time than 2 months. you have anyone u can cross trade with?

No one that I know. Someone gave me a steel pick as a gift and it certainly made a difference, but I am not at a point that I have enough to trade and I am not going to make a donation just to be able to get a few steel picks.

If anyone sees Zarcon toiling away in the contaminated zone and wants to drop a steel pick on him feel free

There seems to be a fair number of AW fans out there. Tell you what, why don't one of you make a AW blog here on GHQ and include instructions for what to do as a noob. I'll download the game and play based on your blog. I'll give it a fair try and see what I think.

I play EU for 3 years and AW for 4 months, playing both for several hours every day, and love them both equally. There are many similarities and much more differences, but I don't compare them, they supplement each other for me.

EU for me is a casino in the finest sense of the word, not a one-handed bandit, but a poker: if you have a knowledge you can be successful, but not all the time and you should never relax. And you should be ready to lose a lot and do not whine. I know all that and it's ok, so when I want to try my luck, never knowing would I profit or completely broke, then it's time to go to EU. I'm not a high level player in the terms of gaming style (keep hunting mostly argos, feffs and rarely atroxes for the last 2 years using primarily Isis lr32) so I don't spend thousands dollars, to keep my head above water 100-150$ per month is enough. As a downside of a such style I don't get much skills, because had maxed all the weapons I usually use over 2 years ago - in the whole 2008 I did progress only from 42 lvl Laser Sniper to 47 and Agility from 62 to 67 (and I play EU 3-4h/day, every day) . But since I accepted the fact that I'll hardly ever reach 70+ lvl, the skills don't matter much for me, I just enjoy the gameplay, hunting my favorite mobs, spending time with my disciples, visiting various events etc.

AW is a completely different thing. I almost didn't gathered sweat in EU, only tried it a bit and found deadly boring, not saying it's close to impossible to earn anything serious with it. But I really liked picking stones in AW . People talk A LOT in the Quarantine zone and you see whole zone local chat, not in the radar vicinity, so even if you won't ask questions and will just read the chat while picking, you'll soon learn more about the game than 10 good mentors could teach you . You can donate 10$ right away, buy the citizenship for 100 AWD and leave the zone, but will have neither knowlegde about the game nor basic skills which you get while picking, so the people who left the zone too fast usually come back pretty soon.

I chose to pick my way out of the Quarantine and in 1 week of playing earned enough to buy me a citizenship. Also earned many friends and a lot of useful knowledge. Only after that I donated 20$, it brought me 200 AWD (AfterWorld Dollars, the rate to $ is the same 1:10 as for PED) to be able to craft pickaxes myself in big amounts (you can't craft in the Quarantine zone and have to go to the other town to do it, and it's really not an easy and fast trip). I kept picking for several weeks, earned ~700 awd and gathered dozens tones of ores, and then finally left the Quarantine zone to start skilling hunting. Skills I gained while picking allow me to craft weapons and healing kits myself and that's 2+ times cheaper than to buy them. I skill like crazy and progress pretty fast. I fell in love with the crafting system, it's complex and amazing. I never had a chance to be a crafter in EU, it requires crazy amount of money to skill. In AW crafting is always 100% successful and the material prices are laughable compared to EU. So far I donated only 100$, the last time was 3 months ago. Probably I'll donate more money in the future, but only to support the developers, because I have enough of AWD without donating, I don't lose them, because there is no Luck involved. As I said above, to try my luck I have EU .

My main question about AW is whether they will ever get out of the infinite alpha stage.

From reading other people's conversations, it seems like there is still a lot of work to be completed. Not to mention the cost of going live. I think they will need to come up with some serious financing to pull that off.

Yea, this is the main issue for me too, if they don't get a move on others with more resources will move in on the niche.
