How To Help a Friend With an MMO Addiction?
|
|
sammydee writes "I have a friend who is addicted to an MMO (Pirates of the Burning Sea). On a typical day, he will wake up around 9am, browse the forums for a bit, then go online and stay online all day, playing until about 3am the following morning, taking only toilet breaks and stopping to eat ready-meals. While the rest of the house works hard revising for exams, this friend will be playing his MMO instead. Now, I am pretty confident that this comprises an unhealthy addiction; unfortunately, I have no idea what to do about it. Any attempt to physically prevent him from playing the game would most likely result in an outburst of anger and possibly physical violence. Attempts at telling him he has a problem have been met with derision and angry retorts. Slashdotters, what would you do to help out a friend in this situation? Perhaps you are a reformed addict yourself - if so, how did you break out of the habit? Or maybe I should just leave well enough alone and allow him to continue? Any thoughts are gratefully received."

Get the guy a girlfriend. She will drain the life out of him and he'll be so exhausted that he won't even think of turning on the PC

I'd have to agree with both of these comments comepletely and fully!
News: How would you break a Forum Whore's addiction to Forums?
Now, the answer to this is, make the addiction lesser and that's that.
So don't try and stop me, I slow down every now and then.

Haven't we all got that period ?
Some have them longer then others.. I think the harder you fall the wiser you get. Experience is a hard teacher. I will not go hardcore anymore like I used to.
It was great fun while doing so though.
Do not let others say what you should do and shouldn't
Besides that if you are going hardcore for a while on games, there is a great chance that you have an added value in game development. If you would like to be part of development it is nice to know what happens in games and what happens to people when they play them
Also when you experience real life issues because of gaming, that experience will give a head start in picking up similar signals further in life. Which acts as a lifeguard when things are turning bad.

Sounds like lots of fun.
Now, problems with that set up:
1. I am too young to drive.
2. The above except about drinking (and Ic an't find any around this place )
3. All the girls around this place are really undesirable. LOL
But heck, I can go hang with other people for a while. ^^
