Mythic Entertainment opening up PVP-focused fantasy MMOG to Apple-based gamers this fall, beta test now underway.
Despite strong review scores and regular infusions of new content, EA and Mythic Entertainment have struggled to keep Warhammer Online's subscriber base at respectable levels since the game launched for PCs in September 2008. Today, though, Mythic announced its latest plan to give the game a booster shot of players, saying that a Mac edition of Warhammer Online will be available this fall.
When a dwarf is involved, the cider is always portable.
Mythic is currently hosting a beta test for the Mac edition of Warhammer Online. To participate, current PC subscribers need simply download the Mac installation client through the game's official Web site. Those without a Warhammer Online account can also participate by downloading Warhammer Online's 10-day free trial, available through the same site. Mythic notes that Mac and PC players will share the same servers.
According to Mythic, the Mac edition of Warhammer Online is made possible by TransGaming's Cider Portability Engine. The technology streamlines the process of converting PC-based software code to that which is compatible with Apple's operating system.
