I read a news article awhile back (I'll see if I can find it again) that discussed the cost of entertainment. Be it, movies, Television, music, videogames, amusement parks etc...
The article boiled down to the fact that, on a dollar/content hour basis, video games provide the best value for your dollar.
I was left asking the question: What is entertainment worth? I've thought for a long time that gaming is a value deal when it comes to fun. I just bought Oblivion and all its expansions for $20 new. That will be some good hours/dollars spent.
So, what is entertainment worth to you? $1/hour ( I know all you EU players agree here ) $2/hour? more? Less?
Discuss !
Regards;
Mandu

Interesting topic!!
I never tried to put a value on it, but I’d say entertainment is worth Every_penny/Tedious_Hours

For me it really depends on what I'm doing during any given gaming hour. It's not as much the cost per hour as the cost of the hour. By that I mean that my hours are worth a lot to me, and I stay very busy IRL, so I do not want to spend an hour doing something that does not have a good entertainment return on investment. I just do not find it worthwhile to grind for hours on end for some faction rep to get a recipe for a leather something-or-other that I will likely never craft more than 3 of in my gaming career. However, I would spent $10 or more per hour to do something really OMGWTFFun in a game. I have stopped playing grind-fest games because I don't feel that I get my entertainment per hour spent ROI that I do in other games. I personally look at an hour of gaming as falling into one or more investment categories:
Income investment - Can I earn some degree of income from it (my business activities in EU, SL, etc.)
Entertainment investment - Is what I'm doing now fun for me? Grinding is not fun for me.... raiding really is not fun for me except for a few minutes each boss. Massive pvp battles ARE fun for me, as are many in-game events in EU, etc.
Educational investment - I learned more applicable business and leadership practices running three corps in Eve that I did in a host of university business courses. I have learned a great deal about project development from alpha testing games, developing clothing lines in SL, etc. Hell, I brushed up on my Latin in Roma Victor when somebody decided to host some impromptu Latin classes during Beta. All of these add potential ROI to the income investment category above (except for the Latin, perhaps).
That's my 2 pecs worth...

I think that is not easy to say ... depend
on many things and can change from day
to day, but at least, as more somebody
enjoy the offered Entertainment, as more
he would pay for it without feel unlucky
on the spend amount of money.

The quality of the entertainment is where its value derives from to me. And the quality to me comes from what is achieved by playing it, be it a sense of bedazzlement (pretty colours and fascination), satisfaction (by the game giving what it's appearance promises, like carnage, adrenalin or puzzle solving) or it's ability to feed a desire to achieve longer term goals, like levelling/skilling an avatar with a view to moving on to different goals.
I try to choose games based on their unique qualities, the things that make them stand out to me from their genre. After playing for some time I sorta have a feel for what each genre holds for me and like to experience anything I perceive as new to it. I've never really calculated dollars per hour or similar but would guess that for a game to be appealling it would have to have greater satisfaction than the sense of loss I would get from spending the money to buy it and its mainly disappontments in the past that direct future spending.

It's worth bearing in mind that if you live in the UK, the mandatory Tv licence costs £11.87 a month.
Even if you never watch BBC.

woow that's harsh
To me the price of entertainment is what I get at the end (for example result), or the satisfaction, devided by the spare cash

It could be far worse, if I thought 1 penny of my TV licence was used to fund ITV I would shoot myself ;p

Well ITV used to have plenty of money to fund programmes, but with how many channels there are now, and how people can skip adverts completely using various Iplayers - they are cash strapped - not to mention the recession reducing advertising budgets anyway.
Bear in mind in the old days there used to be just one ITV, now there are ITV1-4 too.
I find myself watching old BBC programmes on Gold and Dave mostly, so even though they are repeats - I do enjoy the best the BBC has put out in the past.
