In all my life of gaming/movies/tv I have known the difference between them and RL. The fact that a, most likely, large percent of children, young or older than I do not know the difference. I find it quite shameful infact because I see it as one of the most obvious things in life, so simplistic and right infront of your face.
Yes, I was told there was a difference by my parents, but by then I already knew because it was one of the most obvious things in life in my opinion.
Did I ever start and go aorund attacking people without a reason IRL? No, games/movies/tv are just that, fictional pieces of work that some people will sadly take as a role model and do stupid things.

That is all I have to say on the topic.
My 2 cents/pec.

And what about the FPS where you played as a terrorist from some arab nation killing and blowing American soldiers pieces? That game was free if I remember right, but quickly disappeared from the Internet..

I totally agree with the comments about parents. We made the mistake of letting our son play WWF Smackdown on the PS2 which he then decided to practice irl on his sisters so that's controversial in that scenario and a lesson learned by all involved

I can't really think of an objective slant on "most controversial".
I'd say they judge it on the amount of uproar that these games created in the media etc

p.s. you should have shown the that game too, if I'm not mistaken there are female wrestlers in that game too - great rolemodels to the modern ladies

Good points. I've thought in the past how obvious it must be that doing something to someone else that if done to yourself would hurt is obviously something unwanted. I guess you can't wholly blame the parents because kids do have minds of their own, even if they are encouraged or coerced to do bad by an adult.

I don't remember any female wrestlers but you could be right.

Good parenting wont fix a mental illness or a "change of heart" later in their teens/adult life. It is the parents responiblity in the beginning but when you get old enough its only you that can hold yourself responible for your own actions.

I would say it might even do more damage to shield a child from real life sex and violence, because they will meet it no matter what sooner or later. To me its a matter of being prepared and being able to have a healthy dialogue.

And people are way to good at taking offence when no offence was intended.

The squeakiest wheel... annoys me that the world oils them first Makes me wonder wether people are really offended or making alot of noise to get their own way...

Sex is something a child can't really understand until their body matures enough so I can understand shielding them there. Violence is something they can understand from a very young age after their first experience with pain so shielding them from that seems to me a little unnatural. Guiding them through it at their level of understanding (ie. don't pinch because you don't like being pinched because pinching hurts type thing) seems to me the best course of action.
