Its nice to see some business-minded people in being positive about this.

But ultimately I think the stigma attached to gaming in general makes it really risky unless the job you're applying for is specific to the gaming industry. You may have some serious and genuine skills you can demonstrate through certain aspects of your gaming, but even written well, some employers won't see beyond the fact you've put a computer game on your CV and it'll go in the bin.

I hope that changes in time, but for the time being my CV has next to no mention of gaming unless I'm applying for a gaming-industry job. I do think it may well change in time, as Maduro and others have posted, there are plenty of circumstances where gaming experience can actually be very relevant to a job application.

I'd guess its partly a generational thing and the stigma attached to gaming will slowly die out. Seeing stuff like Jonathan Ross and Vin Diesel chattering away about WoW recently on prime-time TV can't do any harm

As an employer and a gamer I must admit I don't know how I would react to seeing computer gaming on a CV in other places other than being mentioned in a hobbies/interests section. It would probably depend on how it was written whether it disclosed any likely team member or leadership traits that could be worth exploring.

Ultimately, it wouldn't make me for or against an applicant at an initial appraisal stage, although I guess though if they made it to the interview stage I might ask about it then.

I work for a Dutch company, and they are very open minded in what i do or don't do and don't care how i go about it as long as i get results....

I mentioned EU to them, when in the office one day on EF and they all acted like i was mental, it completely caught me off guard. Gaming was definately NOT something a 30 something company director should be doing.....

So much for being liberal and forward thinking

Oh well, at least i don't have to wear clogs....

Just wait until raw herrings and onions are available in game then perhaps you could mention it.

Not fair Seven

You know i LOVE raw herring with onions, and the ones i have to put up with over here (from IKEA of all places) just are not as good as my beloved Matjes.

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card gives some pretty good clues and this is a book written in `85. Main character in this book was playing some RTS simulation game at which he got very good at. The game/simulation he was apparently "playing", was a 3d interface that actually commanded real life spaceships that went into war against an alien race. He actually managed to destroy a whole race in RL by playing a RTS computer game.

I'm reading this book right now... And you ruined it. ;P
