by your definition almost any game would be a RPG. super mario bros., duke nukem3d, .. so i disagree.
opposed to 'free roleplaying' and 'spontanous acting', role-playing- games originate from the pen'n'paper RPGs, which usually were based on numerical systems to calculate the outcome of any action (skills / gear / randomness (dice))
CRPG soesn't have to be played online. there are plenty of CRPG-games where all characters were on played a single console / comp.
