What is important to you in games?
|
|
Taking into your account your experience with games of all sorts, what element is the one you seek, or what is keeping you? What is the largest motivation for you to play a certain type of game? Is it roleplaying? Is it well done PvP action? Is it exciting quests or player-made events? Is it the tricky problemsolving? Is it ability to be individual, or group-related activites?
What is it YOU seek?

I look for a FUN factor. It can differ from such as
Grand Theft Auto 4: Having sex with a hooker and then stab her to death when you are done
Postal 2: Set people on fire with gas tank n matches and then piss on em to extinguish the flames
Star Wars Force Unleashed: Trying to create wicked force combos n ways to kill people
Mario Kart: That evil red shell...when playing multiplayer..need I say more?
or..in any random FPS such as CS or various...when you kill bunch of people and they cry "HACKER WAAAH"

I seek out a game with a strong story and an effective narrative so I feel like I contribute to the overall plot of the game.
I think Guild Wars does this well. Everquest 2 to a much lesser extent. Entropia almost not at all.

For me its the sense that its not all for nothing. In the Entropia Universe, the real cash economy is a big help with that. Afterall, what is the point in spending hours a day building wealth that consists of fake money?
In the Entropia Universe, the real cash economy makes things a lot more serious... and also a lot harder

What about all of the people who have made thousands of dollars because they made the correct investments?
As long as knuckles has a place to bitch he is happy and will be around forever

I agree with Thoreau on this one ("Hint Hint MA!"). A good storyline and exciting, challenging gameplay really grabs hold of me.

Oh man this is hard one
Well for me is feeling, for instance I played two games that are not the type I play (Dekaron and Cabal ) simply because I wanted to try out those cool looking skills and took me forever to grind. You know you lvl 62 and you get that new sword but then you realize in 4 more lvl’s you get even cooler one, so you keep on the play time extended.
EvE online is the complexiticity and content.
Most FPS is to kill ppl (I swore am pacifist).
Resident Evil, Fallout and the metal gear like is to get evade from IRL.
So realy is hard to point one think that I like the most or what am looking for when in the game, I think feeling is important part of it.

Thats a hard one, I guess it depends on my mood.
I love playing non-linear games as they give you some freedom to do as you wish.
A strong narriative is usually an important factor as it lets you immerse yourself in the game.
Oh and humour is also pretty important in some sorts of games. And the humour is often far better than you would commonly get in other types of media.

Korgan: Watch yer step, gnome. If ye make me angry, I’ll bury the head of me axe so far up yer backside yer breath will smell like magic metal!
Jan: That’s exactly the kind of thing Twin-Hammers would say. He was a ruthless, savage, bloodthirsty outlaw who would kill anyone or anything that got in his way. He used to repeatedly terrorize a certain gnomish village he frequently wandered through in his neverending quest for profit and bloodshed.
Korgan: A man after me own black heart! Carry on, gnome ... ye got me blood stirrin’!
Jan: Of course, all good things come to an end. Fed up with Uriah’s antics, the village hired a hero to protect them and enforce the law - the legendary Clint Hackman (so named for his habit of chopping his foes to little bits). With the townsfolk peering from their windows the outlaw and the famous lawman stared each other down in the center of the dusty, deserted street. Cold as ice, Uriah said: ‘I’ve killed women and children. I’ve killed everything that walks or crawls on this earth. And now I’m here to kill you.’ Alas, Uriah met his end on that street. With his first blow he broke his hammer on Hackman’s shield, and that was it. Weaponless, he wasn’t much of a match for the mighty Clint. If my uncle had only been named Two-Hammer because he carried two weapons he still might be alive today. But Uriah got his nickname for the mighty hammer he carried in his belt and the even mightier ... uh, ‘hammer’ he had *beneath* his belt, if you get my drift. A fine instrument to have, but not much good in a fight.
Korgan: HAR! HAR! HAR! ‘Tis a good thing ye know yer audience, gnome ... me axe stays in me belt.

The game has to be challenging without being unfathomable and has to have a lot of content. Once I've figured out virtually everything there is to figure out, I'm gone.
A good backstory and decent graphics really add to the experience, but they shouldn't be the main point.
As far as the RCE aspect, unless there is a real ability to build a presence or create content, there is no point. If I wanted to be a "trader", "reseller" or "auction rat" I'd go play eBay. If I want to gamble, I go play poker.
