Do you use quest/raid walkthroughs?

I'm curious as to when players use cheat guides when questing or raiding.

One of the things that troubles me is the idea of a game designer spending hours writing the text for a quest - voicing the NPC dialog - and coding the quest elements only to have a player click through and follow some on-line guide.

To be sure, often times quests are poorly designed and it would be impossible to find a particular NPC to further the quest in a huge world like EQ2, and at those times a peek into a guide would help immensely. But I often find that players dont even attempt a quest - they go straight to the walkthrough.

So, when do you use a guide?

I used a guide for one of the quests on Anarchy Online - the one to get the shoulderpads, theres no way I'd have been able to work out what to kill and where without it.

Do to not much time almost every quest i take look at the guide before going in.

Looking manly for kay info, class needed to make it easy, gear and kay map points or boss weakness.

PS. Lazy atitude.

I must admit that I have used walkthroughs for most of the rpg's I have played .

It's not really out of laziness or becuase it's too hard, I just can't stand the idea of missing out on some cool item or quest.

I usually try the quest first, then again and again till I get fed up and THEN I turn to a walkthru.

Yeah. That's a good point. Sometimes there is a unique item or book lying on a table or something that you can get along the way. If you don't know about it you would need to travel back later and often times go much of the way to get to that point - only to get the book you could have gotten if you had read the walkthough....

Normally I turn to a walkthrough after failing 50+ times.

Also after I finished a game completely I often use a walkthrough to find some missing parts or things I'd still like to have/complete.

Very very very very rarely. I think Ive resorted to it maybe 2 times in my life, and at that point Ive been so frustrated Im about to eat my own shoe. And only one shoe. Which would in turn leave me with one shoe, missing a shoe to make a pair. And you just know that breaks a womans heart.

When it comes to quests that Im unable to do, when I get too frustrated I mostly just leave it while I go do other things. So when I get back to it Im stronger and rid of the frustration. (if the game allows that ofc.)

The exception for me was the Riven/Myst series. It's a point of pride for me that I finished them all sans walkthrough.

My brother and I even managed to clock Riven in less than a week, although that was a team effort
