yeah, pretty similar to trackers.. you should check out 'nanoloop' for gameboy! it's the most basic stepsequencer that you can imagine, and it controls the synth-chip in the GB. killer sound, very original!!
the GBA version disapoints me - it's obvious it hasn't got a built-in synth.
(I'm a sound-engineer, and mixed several concerts that made use of either nanoloop for GB, or nanoloop for GBA, and the GB-version is just soooo much more powerful than the GBA, from a sonic point of view, not featurewise, ofc..)
