rss Microsoft Extends Xbox 360 Warranty To E74 Errors

Last month we discussed reports that Xbox 360 consoles were experiencing an increased amount of "E74" errors. Now, Microsoft has announced that they're extending the three-year warranty originally designated for "general hardware failures" (read: Red Ring of Death) to include E74 repairs as well. From the support page post: "... we are aware that a very small percentage of our customers have reported receiving an error that displays 'E74' on their screen. After investigating the issue, we have determined that the E74 error message can indicate the general hardware failure that is associated with three flashing red lights error on the console. ... Microsoft will refund to customers the amount paid for an out of warranty repair due to a general hardware failure associated with the E74 error message."

I'm impressed that Microsoft is handling these issues this responsibly, but I'm still amazed that a product of such poor design managed to be pushed to the masses.

I'm sure this console has been one of the harshest PR nightmare for MS since Windows ME.

Very good that Microsoft has decided to do this. Very responsible fo rthem to take care of a product they have sold to the masses tha tis sadly slightly faulty to a % of them.
A small percent is still a percent.

supposedly these errors are fixed in any machines that were built after september last year. Ive had mine nearly a week and no errors yet will have to keep an eye on it ande see if it dies.

E74 is different than the RROD, but the RROD is attributed to E74.

Basically, they fixed the overheating issues causing solder points to crack, that was the initial cause for the RROD, which they fixed for the production runs after September--supposedly.

This is a different issue that causes the RROD to rear its ugly head.

A necessary step from MS. Best would be if they had have launched a product without production errors that effect so many users ofcourse.
