Activision and Radical Entertainment prime hyperviolent, open-world action adventure for Xbox 360, PS3, PC for late-spring deployment.
Sierra Entertainment suffered the brunt of canceled projects when
its parent label, Vivendi Games, merged with Activision last July. While nearly all were subsequently acquired by various other publishers,
projects Activision deemed in need of "streamlining" included Brutal Legend, Ghostbusters, The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, World in Conflict: Soviet Assault, and 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand, among others.

One game Activision did seem to see franchise potential in was Radical Entertainment's chaotic open-world action title Prototype. Today, the publisher announced that Prototype will arrive on North American retail shelves for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on June 9, with the European rollout slated for June 5.
Developed by Radical Entertainment (which saw
substantial staff cuts and two canceled projects in August 2008), Prototype casts players as a genetically altered shape-shifter tearing a path of destruction through New York City. Along the way, gamers try to discover who they are and what's behind their mutations, all while fighting off an assortment of military and mutant adversaries.
Though it was announced in July 2007, it wasn't until February 2009 that Activision began offering hands-on time with Radical's hyperviolent, parkour-inspired action game.
GameSpot's preview of Prototype has more on the title, as does the video below.
