rss Download of the Week - And Yet It Moves

"And Yet It Moves is a puzzle-platformer, set in a unique world, made of ripped paper. Within the paper collage, you can jump, run and last but certainly not least: rotate the world. Learn how to apply the physical consequences of rotation to master the many tricky situations you may encounter."

From the get go the art design in this game is beautifully unique as you're surrounded by ripped paper that forms into caverns, lush forests and more. Within your journey a soft acoustic soundtrack accompanies your every move adding to your excitement while you're suspended in the air or rotating 180 degrees.

The demo starts you off in a set of caverns that act as a tutorial, but quickly turns into a race for your life when tight corners and boulders create danger with every rotation. There are infinite lives through out the demo, but if you die you transport back to your last checkpoint. This can be frustrating at times, but once you master the art of rotation you will soon find the level design amazing.

Each level can be replayed as a time trial, competition, or a simple replay of the level itself. This gives this three level demo a high replay value. You can download this demo here, and many others on the GameSpot Downloads page.

I like these kind of games. Well thought thru leveldesign combined with new-ish gameplay, all with an original look to it. A bit like the xbox live game Braid where timeshifting is added to what looks a simple mario clone. Definately gonna try out the demo.

This looks rather intriguing, and the levels look very well designed. I'm definitely gonna check this out. You need a gamespot account to download the file, and i'm too lazy to set one up (i already have one somewhere but set it up with an old email and don't remember details), but theres a demo on steam too (not certain it's the same)

After having a little play around with this, it's a fun game, and it can be disorienting to be jumping through little gaps and rotating the map around while midair while trying to picture where I'm ending up. The boulders just make this harder as they will fall with you.
Though the games are completely different, the concept feels not dissimilar from Valve's Portal, in which you had to get to different areas by opening portals in space time, and your velocity and momentum was conserved through a portal. I like it anyways
