rss FIFA continues to control UK chart

FIFA 12 is still the only title to have topped the charts in 2012, while Star Wars: The Old Republic clings on at 37.

Even though it's cold and wet outside, gamers are clearly still enjoying playing football, as the beautiful game continues to dominate the UK games charts. EA's FIFA 12 has held onto the top spot of the all-formats chart for a fifth week in a row, its 17th week on the chart overall. While it still has a way to go before it beats FIFA Road to World Cup 98, which spent 11 weeks at number one, it has the accolade of having the biggest launch of any sports title ever, with 3.2 million units shifted in the first week.

FIFA 12 evades challenges to maintain the top spot.

Initial sales of BioWare's Star Wars: The Old Republic were deemed below expectations. Although the massively multiplayer online role-playing game is currently floundering at 37 in the all-formats chart, EA can take solace in its number two position on the PC chart, during Football Manager 2012's 10th week at number one.

The dance and fitness game craze is also not settling down. Just Dance 3, Zumba Fitness, and Zumba Fitness 2 are holding onto the top three spots in the Wii chart, and keeping third, sixth, and eighth positions respectively in the all-formats chart. Mario Kart 7 continues to be the highest-selling game on the 3DS for the fifth week running, continuing its impressive run.

The biggest change-up this week was the critically acclaimed Rayman Origins. With the aid of huge price drops in many stores, it clambered from 17 to nine. In another surprise, after 10 weeks in the top 10, Assassin's Creed: Revelations dropped to number 12, failing to match the 15 weeks Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood spent in the top 10.

UK All-Formats Chart for Week Ending 21 January 2012:
1. FIFA 12
2. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
3. Just Dance 3
4. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
5. Battlefield 3
6. Zumba Fitness
7. Saints Row: The Third
8. Zumba Fitness 2
9. Rayman Origins
10. Rage
