.
If someone would run up to me and ask me:
"What do you like better: The
Mass Effect Series or
Boobs ?"
I'd answer boobs. But that's just because I have a thing for them.
Mass effect is like a movie. That doesn't suck.
BUT
Mass effect is also like a console port. That doesn't suck.
ACTUALLY
Mass Effect is like a good movie, mixed with a good game and sprinkled with Beer.
Hell, Mass Effect is actually worth every little second you spend playing with it. And some more.
Even though I wouldn't define Mass Effect visually appealing, I'd still prefer looking at a screenshot of Mass Effect 1 instead of having a dirty spork continuously stabbed in my left eye.
Sure, Mass Effect 1 sometimes looks like it's enviroments and characters have been painted with colourful cat vomit, however you can also tell some efforts was put in making this game a little better looking than
most recent game titles.
Mass Effect 2 on the other hand evolves, bringing you much crispier and well defined images. Combat scenes and cut scenes are well displayed and should look nice enough on medium spec machines.
But how's the gameplay? At first, playing Mass Effect (especially the first one) will feel like trying to ride a horse by holding its testicles. Wrong and unusual. But eventually you'll end up liking it. Not the horse testicles, the gameplay. Forget other
FPS and dont even think about real time strategy, Mass Effects allows you to control your character and your squad (you and two other characters you choose before missions) and gives you the possibility to deliver punishment to your enemies via firepower or biotic/tech powers. What's a Biotic Power? It's like Jedi power but a little bit cooler and colored.
Still not convinced? Who cares. You have the internet, I'm pretty sure youtube will make it visual enough for you.
"I heard the story is awesome!" screamed the little boy from across the room.
Absolutely is! And get this, you actually influence the way the story goes, and if you import your Mass Effect 1 save game into Mass Effect 2, the story line keeps from where you finished! Isn't that just like going to a strip club and being allowed to shout at the girls?
No it insn't, but it's still pretty awesome to me.
The story line is interesting and well developed. It's actually quite original and will hardly ever get you to skip the cutscenes or dialogues. Side missions are well developed and often get back right on track with the original
quest (Only I know how much I hate that word)
Can you handle it?
I have been playing both games on an
M17 Quad Q9000, dual ATI HD 3870 512MB and 4 gigs of RAM and have chomped away through hoardes of aliens without EVER stuttering or lagging. If your setup is similar or better than mine, ME 1 and 2 will work just fine at max settings.
In other words:
Become one with the Mass Effect games, it'll soon become a trilogy!.
(try not to spend 60 bucks on it, it's good and all but you will not be playing it for months)
