OoooOOOOooooh....Good old Samus Aran, wait a sec let me jog your memory...
Original Metroid on NES, fun as hell...
Metroid 2: Return of Samus, now this one somehow escaped my greedy fingers, and dont know how it was, but looks like it might have been awesome aswell...
Now my personal favourite of the series so far, Super Metroid:
Seriously, this game rocks, and was truly innovative in its time!
Then the last, Metroid Prime games, these i dont have that much experience, just seen them played, never owned the newer Nintendo consoles to actually play these, but they sure look sweet...Somehow i still feel Prime-games cant capture the feeling that was present for example in Super Metroid, i was actually a bit scared when playing that...
Heres a flic of the Prime3:Corruption:
There must be more games to this series, on other platforms and such, but i havent played them, so i cant say much about them...
So have you played these, and whaddya thought of them?

Played every single damned one.
It's my favourite game series. I remember playing Super Metroid (my second favourite.) when i was a kid. Killing my first boss on my uncle's SNES. Literally crapping myself (I was about 4). It was the one where after you kill it, you go to the end of the room, and it's skeleton pops out, and starts trying to hit you, but dies quickly in lava instead.
My favourite game in the series was Fusion on the GBA. The bits with SA-X were so tense and atmospheric. One bit had you running through about 5 long rooms away from him, in the stations CPU. Quick reactions, and a heart-thumping moment. It was cool how you couldn't touch him whatsoever, until near the end, where you got Ice missiles. There's another really cool bit, but its too much of a spoiler. Play the games youselves

Hahhaaa i remembers! even if i was already older when playing Super Metroid, i dids still make a deep impression, as these things are still in my memory!
Btw, if you are feeling retro, and need something to play from that era, i recommend Iji, its a free indie-game, and won some sorts of prizes if remember right, or at least is highly praised platformer-shooter....
edit: Iji isnt obviously from that era, but i might as well be, because of the graphics and such...but still nice gameplay, and so on...

I didnt really get in to this series till the Prime trilogy started on the N^$ but absolutely loved those three. Metroid Prime Corruption on the Wii was an amazing game. The best use there has been of the Wiis limited power.

Don't know much about Metroid, past the original and the newest. But super Metroid looks all kinds of awesome.
